TennisSection previews the 2021 Cincinnati Open as Jannik Sinner takes on John Isner in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, August 18th, 2021.
Will John Isner continue to get solid wins under his belt as he aims to get himself far into yet another tournament? Will Jannik Sinner find some more form after having won his biggest title of his career just a couple weeks ago in similar conditions? Both players can win this match if they are at their best, but only one will make their way to the Round of 16 of the 2021 Cincinnati Open. Who will it be?
John Isner had to fight back from a set down against Cameron Norrie in his opening match, beating the always tough Brit in 3 sets 4-6/7-6/6-4. John Isner took the first set to get his rhythm back after losing in the Semi-Finals of the Toronto Open last week, and once his serve was firing, he was not easy to beat. John Isner loves these conditions because he is able to hit incredibly high kicking and fast serves, making it very hard for opponents to return. However, he now meets the very in form and big wingspan Jannik Sinner who will definitely give him a hard time here at the 2021 Cincinnati Open.
Jannik Sinner put on a solid performance in the opening round, beating Federico Delbonis in straight sets 6-2/7-5. Jannik Sinner will be looking to get some good results under his belt this week to best prepare himself for the US Open at the end of the month. Jannik won the Washington Open just a couple weeks ago, so he knows he can go far here. However, Sinner cannot afford to let his guard down on his service games as if he does, he will find it very hard trying to break back against a very in form and determined John Isner at the 2021 Cincinnati Open.
Jannik Sinner and John Isner have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. I expect a very tight match between these two players, because John Isner is one of the most experienced players and has huge assets like his serve, whilst Jannik Sinner is the future of tennis and he is aiming to continue making a name for himself. John will definitely keep things tight in this match, but I think that Jannik’s amazing return game will hurt the American. Jannik has a huge wingspan so he can return balls on both sides of the service box, and this will allow him to return the serve and wear down Isner as he makes his way into the Round of 16 of the 2021 Cincinnati Open.
