TennisSection previews the 2021 Toronto Open as Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on Dusan Lajovic in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021.
Will Dusan Lajovic show us that although he is not highly regarded on hard courts, on his day he can hurt some big name players? Will Felix Auger-Aliassime come out here ready to put on a show in front of his home fans as he aims to show them why he is their star of the future? Both players can win this match if they come out at their best, but only one will make their way to the Round of 16 of the 2021 Toronto Open. Who will it be?
Dusan Lajovic came through an extremely tight match against the up and coming and determined Emil Ruusuvuori, beating the Finn in 3 sets 3-6/6-3/6-3. Dusan Lajovic will be happy with that match because he was able to maintain his composure during the tight moments and he did not aim to finish the points too quickly, not being afraid of getting himself in some very long and draining rallies. Dusan is underrated on the ATP Tour and he can ruffle the feathers of big names when he is at his best. However, he will have to ensure he plays at an extremely high level from start to finish now as he meets the local crowd favourite, Felix Auger-Aliassime, at the 2021 Toronto Open.
Felix Auger-Aliassime will be looking to bounce back after losing in the Round of 16 last week at the Washington Open against Jenson Brooksby in straight sets. Felix should have won that match but he did crumble under the pressure from the crowd and the momentum of Jenson. Now that he is here at the 2021 Toronto Open, in his home country, Felix Auger-Aliassime will know that he has a huge amount of support behind him in his matches so this will give him a lot of confidence. This will be necessary against the always tough Dusan Lajovic.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Dusan Lajovic have met 1 time before, with Dusan Lajovic leading the head to head 1-0. I expect a very tight match here because Dusan Lajovic showed great promise in his opening match, playing some incredible rallies and just moving great at the back of the court. However, I see Felix coming out on top of this one. Felix is much higher ranked, and when he is on top of his game, with the crowd behind him, he is hard to beat because he can use his serve to get on top of points early and then win the point quickly. I expect a 3-setter just because Felix does let his guard down at times, but the young Canadian will make his way into the Round of 16 of the 2021 Toronto Open.
