TennisSection previews the 2021 Gstaad Open as Laslo Djere (7) meets Arthur Rinderknech in the Quarter-Finals on Friday July 23rd, 2021.
A very close battle is expected as seventh seeded Laslo Djere of Serbia will face unseeded Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech for a spot in Friday’s Semi-Finals at the 2021 Gstaad Open. Both men have been in great form over the past few weeks and this is really shaping up to be an interesting match. Can the Serbian get the win and advance to his second ATP Tour Semi-Final in as many weeks? Or will the Frenchman cause the minor upset?
Laslo Djere is the seventh seed here at the 2021 Gstaad Open and is currently ranked #52 on the ATP Tour. The Serbian is a two time Titlist on the ATP Tour and has a career-high ranking of #27. While he has been inconsistent over the past few seasons, he is a very dangerous player and enters Gstaad with some serious momentum after reaching the Semi-Finals in Hamburg. He had some impressive wins over Jan-Lennard Struff and Nikolosz Basilashvili and his confidence will be as high as it has been in a while. Djere then followed that week up with wins over Thiago Wild and Zizou Bergs to reach this stage. He enters this match against Arthur Rinderknech as the slight favorite, but will be wary of his opponent as he is also in good form here in Gstaad.
Arthur Rinderknech is unseeded here at the 2021 Gstaad Open, and is ranked a career-high #100 on the ATP Tour. The Frenchman is in great form at the moment, reaching his second consecutive ATP Quarter-Final. After reaching the Quarters last week at the Swedish Open, he has equaled that feat by stunning second seed Roberto Bautista Agut in the Round of 16. In this sort of form it is difficult to call him the underdog here against Laslo Djere despite his opponent’s higher ranking, and he will be very confident in his chances here. If he plays his best and is fully focused he certainly has a good shot of yet another win here.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and it really is a tough one to call. Both men have been fantastic over the past two weeks and this should be a very keenly contested and even match. While Laslo Djere is much higher ranked and has more experienced, Arthur Rinderknech has just played the match of his life to defeat Roberto Bautista Agut, and is clearly in some serious form. It really can go either way, and Rinderknech probably has more betting value as he is the underdog, but I am going with Laslo Djere to win here. Experience is key at this stage of a tournament, and Djere has been here many times. It is very likely to go to three sets, but give us Laslo Djere to win and advance to his second consecutive Semi-Final on the ATP Tour here at the 2021 Gstaad Open.
