Bernabe Zapata Miralles pulled off a very solid comeback against a much tougher opponent in Pablo Cuevas, beating the Uruguayan in 3 sets 4-6/6-2/6-4. Bernabe is not very well known on the ATP Tour, mainly participating in Challenger Tour tournaments where he sometimes gets past the first and second round. Bernabe will be filled with confidence after that win against Pablo Cuevas, knowing that if he can beat someone as good as Cuevas on clay, he can definitely compete against the likes of Dusan Lajovic in the hopes of making it to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Umag Open.
Dusan Lajovic put on some solid performances at the Hamburg Open last week, finding a bit of needed form as he aims to get back to his best level. Dusan reached the Quarter-Finals where he lost to the eventual champion, Pablo Carreno Busta, in straight sets. Dusan will want to build on last week and he knows that he has a strong chance of doing so in this bottom half of the draw of the 2021 Umag Open. However, he cannot take opponents too lightly here, such as Bernabe Zapata Mirrales, and his one-handed backhand and forehand need to be as precise as they can be in this match.
Dusan Lajovic and Bernabe Zapata Miralles have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. Bernabe has only ever won 5 matches on the ATP Tour and he has lost 10. His career is mainly focused on the Challenger Tour and with the performances that Dusan Lajovic put on last week in Hamburg, I see him winning this match. Miralles beat Cuevas, but Cuevas was not as good as we expected him to, so it was not a huge upset. It might be tight, as Bernabe has nothing to lose here, but Dusan will make his way to the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Umag Open.
