TennisSection previews the 2021 Hall of Fame Open as Jenson Brooksby takes on Peter Gojowczyk in the quarterfinals on Thursday, July 15th, 2021.
Will Peter Gojowczyk follow up his stunner of a win to make the semifinals? Will Jenson Brooksby manage to go through as the crowd favorite? This match promises to be one of intrigue as there is definitely no clear winner. Who will move on to the semifinals at the 2021 Hall of Fame Open?
Peter Gojowczyk pulled off a stunner over Vasek Pospisil, taking him out 6-3 6-3. If I were forced to pick one person to win this match, which I am, I would pick Peter. I would pick him because of the quality of the opponent he beat and the way he did it, sure, Pospisil did not play his best at all, but that doesn’t change the fact that he still crushed him. One big red flag for me though is that he went from a virtually perfect first serve percentage of 96% in his first match, to 45% in this last match, while it was plenty to deliver the straight sets shocker, it’s still not too good. I think he will get his first serve percentage up though, and I think he will be able to make a nice run to the semifinals at the 2021 Hall of Fame Open.
Jenson Brooksby got through on a relatively easy draw here at the 2021 Hall of Fame Open, but since both of these players are lowly ranked on the ATP Tour and both got here with some luck, that’s why it’s still a hard choice as I feel anything can happen. In order to take out Gojowczyk, Jenson will have to draw not only on the pro-American crowd but also on some aggressive play, especially jumping on every single second serve he gets, considering how high Peter’s first serve percentage was in his first match. He did convert on 4/8 break points, which is pretty solid, so that’s a good sign for him. It’ll be a tough one, but I think Brooksby can do it with a little luck and aggressive play on the return.
Peter Gojowczyk and Jenson Brooksby have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. I would not be surprised if this match went either way, but I think the main factor will be Peter’s serving, if he keeps the first serve percentage even somewhat close to 96%, then he should not have many problems getting through to the semifinals. A lot of aggressive play will be expected from Brooksby, which he can produce, but I have a feeling the man from Germany will be the one to book a spot in the last four at the 2021 Hall of Fame Open.
