TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Matteo Berrettini (7) meets Hubert Hurkacz (14) in the Semi-Finals on Friday, July 9th 2021.
Will Hubert Hurkacz back up that superb performance he put on in the Quarter-Finals by getting the biggest win of his career undoubtedly? Will Matteo Berrettini continue to perform strongly on grass and make his way to his first ever Grand Slam Final? Both of these players have played superbly here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, but only one will make their way to their maiden Grand Slam Final. Who will it be?
Hubert Hurkacz shocked us all on Centre Court on Wednesday at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships, beating the 8x Champion and the heavy favourite, Roger Federer. Not only did he beat him, but he also gave him a demolition, beating Federer in the most one-sided defeat the Swiss has ever had here at Wimbledon, with Hurkacz winning in straight sets 6-3/7-6/6-0. Hubert Hurkacz was not over hitting or over playing throughout the match, he was very calm and he just played the game he knows he is supposed to play and this was exactly what helped him get the win. Hubert has been in great form in 2021 and he will know that he has now made an even bigger name for himself. But will he be able to get one step closer to a potential career defining title by beating Matteo Berrettini?
Matteo Berrettini came through an extremely tight match against Felix Auger-Aliassime, beating the Canadian youngster in 4 sets, 6-3/5-7/7-5/6-3. Matteo Berrettini was able to maintain his composure during the very tight moments when Felix was playing incredibly well, and this was enough for him to gain the edge against the youngster. Matteo Berrettini has been great on grass all season and he will know that he can definitely compete for the title here. However, he will have to ensure he is ready to give it 110% for every point as he now meets the man who defeated Roger Federer on Wednesday, Hubert Hurkacz.
Matteo Berrettini and Hubert Hurkacz have met 2 times before, with the head to head tied at 1-1. They are both incredible players and have had great form in 2021. I would say the more consistent player on grass recently has been Matteo Berrettini, however, Hurkacz has gotten the much better wins under his belt, having beaten Daniil Medvedev and Roger Federer here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. I think Hubert has been in great form, but I think he will still be riding the high of beating such a big name, whilst Matteo will know he has a huge task at hand. It will be the match of the day in my opinion and it will be extremely tight, but Matteo will come out on top to make his way to the Final here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
