TennisSection previews the 2021 Qatar Open as Roberto Bautista Agut (5) meets Alexander Bublik in the second round on Wednesday, March 10 2021.
Will Roberto Bautista Agut put on another solid performance here in Qatar to book his spot in the Quarter-Finals? Will Alexander Bublik show us tennis shots we are not used to seeing in his extremely unorthodox game style? Only one of these two players can come through on Wednesday. Who will book a spot in the Quarter-Finals?
Alexander Bublik put on a great performance on Monday, beating Ramkumar Ramanathan in straight sets 6-4/6-2. Bublik was on top of that match right from the start, and he did not let go of anything as soon as he was in control. I have not seen Alexander Bublik play with such consistency and determination ever throughout his career, but 2021 is different. Bublik made it clear in his post match interview that he is looking to put in a lot of hard work over the next 10 years to be the best player he can, and one day hang his boots and relax. Alexander is one of the most naturally talented players out there on the tour and I am sure that with this mentality, he can become a Top 20 player. Alexander Bublik now meets a very tough opponent in Roberto Bautista Agut. Can he cause the upset here?
Roberto Bautista Agut put on an amazing display in the first round, beating Reilly Opelka coming back from a set down. Bautista Agut won 4-6/6-3/6-4 in what was an extremely tight match. Roberto did what he always does, he stays in the match when the going gets tough, and finds a way to outwear his opponents. Opelka was breathing extremely heavily towards the end as a result. Now, Roberto Bautista Agut will have to meet a very unorthodox player in Alexander Bublik in what is going to be a very interesting encounter on Wednesday. Will Roberto Bautista Agut be able to continue this great run of form in 2021 and book himself a spot in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 Qatar Open?
This is going to be the second meeting between both players with Alexander Bublik leading the head to head 1-0. Although Bublik leads the head to head, I believe that Roberto Bautista Agut is going to find this match much easier than the Kazakh. Alexander Bublik, although extremely talented, can have a tendency of losing concentration in long and draining rallies. Roberto Bautista Agut is the opposite. Roberto Bautista Agut will throw everything at you at every instance, wearing you down right until the end. I expect this to be a tight encounter as both players love these conditions, but at the end of the day, RBA will come out on top here and make his way to the Quarter-Finals.
