TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Karolina Muchova (19) meets Paula Badosa (30) in the Round of 16 on Monday, July 5th 2021.
Will Paula Badosa make it another far run at a Grand Slam after having performed well over the last month? Will Karolina Muchova back up that big upset she caused as she aims to make her way to the Quarter-finals here of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Both players can win this match if they are on top of their game, but only one will come through this. Who will it be?
Paula Badosa had to fight back from a set down in the Round of 32, beating Magda Linette in 3 sets 5-7/6-2/6-4. Paula Badosa has been able to find her best level in Grand Slam tournaments over the last month, reaching the Quarter-finals at the French Open, and now being one win away from doing the same here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Paula Badosa is a tough player who fights for every ball, and I expect for her to come out here ready to give it her best against Karolina Muchova, but she will need to ensure she starts better than she did against Magda Linette.
Karolina Muchova beat the in form 2021 French Open Finalist, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, in the Round of 32, beating her in straight sets 7-5/6-3. Once Karolina Muchova was on top of that match, she just felt much more confident in her groundstokes and on serve, allowing her to then swing freely on the return and putting more pressure on Pavlyuchenkova. Karolina Muchova is underrated as she has been able to get a lot of big name wins in 2021, but the reason why she is not remembered often is because she has not been able to back these wins up many times. Can she back it up against a strong opponent in Paula Badosa in the Round of 16 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships?
Karolina Muchova and Paula Badosa have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Both players have played some great matches here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and they will come out here ready to fight for the win. However, going off of recent Grand Slam performances, I have to back Paula Badosa to get the win here. Paula has been able to get some strong form at Slams recently and she will not be scared that Muchova is slightly higher ranked. It still will be a tight match, most likely being a 3-setter, but Badosa should make her way to the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
