Mikael Ymer had to fight right down to the line against Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in the Round of 128, beating the experienced Frenchman in 5 sets 7-5/6-7/5-7/6-4/6-3. This was a very good win for Ymer to get under his belt because he was able to come back from 2-1 down, but also beat a very experienced opponent, even though he is way past his best. Mikael Ymer will be confident but he will also know that he needs to raise his level much more if he is to cause the upset against Felix Auger-Aliassime here in the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
Felix Auger-Aliassime cruised through his Round of 128 match against Thiago Monteiro, beating the Brazilian in straight sets 6-3/6-3/6-3. Felix Auger-Aliassime proved a point in that match, that he has improved drastically since they last met. Felix has been playing very well on grass, reaching the Final in Stuttgart, the Semis in Halle, and now cruising through his first match at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Now, he meets a tough opponent in Felix Auger-Aliassime, but I am sure he will be confident in his game.
Felix Auger-Aliassime and Mikael Ymer have never met before, with this being their first meeting. I expect for both of these youngsters to come out here and give it their best. However, Mikael struggled to compete and had to win in 5 sets against a very poor performing Tsonga, whilst Felix dominated against a tough Thiago Monteiro. I see Felix continuing his dominant run here and not leeting any cheap points go as he aims to make a bigger name for himself here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
