Will Katerina Siniakova be able to carry some of her momentum on the grass? Will Johanna Konta be able to back up her title in Eastbourne with results at Wimbledon? Both players promise to produce a match of quality as they have both had very high levels on the grass. However, only one player can get through to the Round of 64, who will it be?
Katerina Siniakova has had a tough season but recently found her form on the grass, reaching the final of the Bad Homburg Open. Despite her terrific play on the grass, Johanna Konta is even better on it. She definitely has a chance, but it will be a tough task and she will have to play some of her best tennis to be able to go through to the Round of 64 at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
Johanna Konta is coming into Wimbledon this year with a lot of confidence just lifting the title at the Nottingham Open. She has plenty of experience on the grass with a semi-final and quarter-final appearance at the Championships in 2017 and 2019. She can absolutely make another great run at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships with the form she looked to be in last week. I expect her to make a strong start and get through a nice test early on in Katerina Sinikova.
Katerina Sinikova and Johanna Konta have played twice before, with the head to head tied at 1-1. Katerina Sinikova picked up their first win in Shenzhen 4 years ago, while Johanna Konta beat Katerina Sinikova at the latest edition of the championships. They are definitely familiar with each other’s game, even on grass. This should make for an exciting match-up, although I suspect Johanna Konta will make a strong showing.
