A thrilling match is expected here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Alex De Minaur faces Sebastian Korda in the First Round. The Aussie is a very accomplished player and is in red-hot form at the moment after winning the title at Eastbourne. His opponent here Sebastian Korda is one of the most promising youngsters on the ATP Tour and is certainly capable of some fantastic tennis. Can he cause the upset here and knock out the Aussie?
Alex De Minaur is the fifteenth seed here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and is currently ranked #18 on the ATP Tour. The Aussie has built a reputation as one of the hardest workers on the tour, and his attitude and effort always allow him to be a threat on all surfaces. He is small in stature but he makes up for it with his footwork and speed, and has mastered the art of counterpunching. After winning the Eastbourne title by defeating Lorenzo Sonego in a third set tiebreaker, his confidence will be very high, and in this form he is very capable of going deep into the draw. He will face a very tough opponent in the First Round in Sebastian Korda, and this should be one of the more competitive early round matches. The American doesn’t have much experience on grass but his power game suits the surface perfectly, and he will be a stern test for De Minaur.
Sebastian Korda is unseeded here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships and is currently ranked #50 on the ATP Tour. The young American has had an outstanding start to his career, winning his first title this year and reaching the Semi-Finals at the Miami Open. All signs suggest that he will follow in his father’s career and break into the top 10 in the near future. He hasn’t played much on grass in his young career, but his huge serve and powerful groundstrokes will be very effective on these faster courts and as he gains more experience his movement will improve. Korda had a good warm-up for this event by reaching the Quarter-Finals in Halle, and will be hoping to go deep into the draw here. His opponent Alex De Minaur is in excellent form however and the young American will be up against it here.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and it is probably the pick of the First Round matches here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Both men are in good form and their games contrast very well, with Alex De Minaur capable of some excellent movement and defense, and Sebastian Korda being a power hitter with an explosive game. I expect this to be a very keen battle and it is not a match that tennis fans will want to miss. I can easily see this going to four of five sets, but ultimately I do think that the Aussie will get the win. He is very experienced and is now coming off his first grass-court title, and that experience will be key during the close moments. It can go either way, but I’m backing Alex De Minaur to advance here.
