Wimbledon Championships 2021: Fabio Fognini vs. Albert Ramos-Vinolas Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Fabio Fognini (26) meets Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the Round of 128 on Monday, June 28th 2021.

Will Albert Ramos-Vinolas be able to perform as strongly on grass as he did on clay in 2021? Will Fabio Fognini finally find some form after not playing his best over the last few months? This will be a tight battle between two experienced veterans, but only one will make their way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Who will it be?

Albert Ramos-Vinolas had a bad start to the grass court season, going 0-2 in his matches at Queen’s and Eastbourne over the last 2 weeks. Albert is not really comfortable with grass as he is not able to get the spin he wants on the ball as well as the height. Grass courts are lower bouncing and faster, meaning that flat hitters have an easier time. Albert is an experienced player and he can adapt his game to the circumstance, but when he meets a very versatile opponent in Fabio Fognini right from the start, he will want to find some luck here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.

Fabio Fognini has gone 1-1 for his matches on grass so far this year, but he will obviously try and bring out his best here at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Fabio is obviously not the biggest grass fan, but he can adapt his game a lot to suit the surface. Fabio can play with a lot of spin or flat and he has the ability to play super fast tennis and slow tennis. I expect for the Italian to want to make a statement this year at Wimbledon to show us that he should not be underestimated anymore after not playing well for the last few months. However, he needs to be at his best right from the start as he meets Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Fabio Fognini and Albert Ramos-Vinolas have met 11 times before, with Fabio Fognini leading the head to head 9-2. They have not met in 4 years and the only time they met on grass was 9 years ago. They are both very experienced opponents and they know each other quite well. Although Albert has been in better form in 2021, on grass I see Fabio being able to adapt better to the conditions. It will be tight, but Fabio should make his way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
