TennisSection previews the 2021 Wimbledon Championships as Roger Federer (6) meets Adrian Mannarino in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, June 29th 2021.
Will Roger Federer get his 2021 Wimbledon Championships campaign off to a strong start and build momentum in hopes for a title run? Will Adrian Mannarino come out and spoil the part for all tennis fans around the world? This will be a good match to see where Federer’s game is on grass against a tough lefty opponent. Who will make their way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships?
Adrian Mannarino put on some solid performances all week last week at the Mallorca Open, making his way to the Semi-finals. Although he did have that success, a lot of it was due to Dominic Thiem having to retire when he was beating Mannarino 5-2 due to a wrist injury which saw him also withdraw from Wimbledon. Adrian Mannarino is always a tough opponent to come up against on these low bouncing surfaces, but he now faces the expert of grass in Roger Federer, and he will have to be at his best if he wants to get the upset under his belt.
Roger Federer did not have the start he wanted to his grass season, going 1-1 in his matches. However, it was never going to be easy for the Swiss. His matches at Halle a few weeks ago were important for him to see his strengths and weaknesses and then go back to the drawing board to prepare himself for the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. Roger Federer will have a tough road to the Final, but he also did in 2019 and he made his way to the Final. Therefore, I am sure he will come out against Adrian Mannarino ready for a battle.
Roger Federer and Adrian Mannarino have met 6 times before, with Roger Federer leading the head to head 6-0. Although Adrian Mannarino has performed well on grass in these last few weeks, when it comes to coming up against the 8x Wimbledon Champion, Roger Federer, I don’t see him causing the upset. Roger loves this tournament and it always brings out the best in him. I expect for it to be tight at some moments as Roger aims to understand his game better, but once he’s in his groove, he will win this match and make his way to the Round of 64 of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships.
