Queen’s Open 2021: Matteo Berrettini vs. Alex De Minaur Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Queen’s Open as Matteo Berrettini (1) meets Alex De Minaur (4) in the Semi-Finals on Saturday June 19th, 2021.

Top seeded Italian Matteo Berrettini will face fourth seed Alex De Minaur of Australia in an interesting Semi-Final here at the 2021 Queen’s Open. Both men have been in top form so far this week and are seeking to reach the Final here as they finish off their preparations for Wimbledon. Who will get the win and advance to the Final here at Queen’s?

Matteo Berrettini is the top seed here at the 2021 Queen’s Open and is ranked #9 on the ATP Tour. The powerful Italian has been having an outstanding season so far this year and has continued that momentum here at Queen’s. His huge serve and powerful groundstrokes are major weapons on this surface, and he has been dominating his opponent so far. He defeated the British duo of Andy Murray and Dan evans in abck to back matches, and really is in supreme form. Berrettini enters this match against Alex De Minaur as the overwhelming favorite, but would be wise to not underestimate his opponent, who is an elite mover and baseline player, and can certainly be dangerous here. If Berrettini plays well he should be able to overpower the young Aussie, but he certainly is in for a tough time here.

Alex De Minaur is the fourth seed here at the 2021 Queen’s Open and is currently ranked #22 on the ATP Tour. The Aussie has had a very inconsistent season, winning a title early on in the year in Antalya and struggling since. He has seemingly found some form here on the grass and reached the Quarter-Finals last week in Stuttgart before surprisingly losing to Jurij Rodionov and started impressively here, defeating countryman John Millman 6-1, 6-3. De Minaur beat Marin Cilic in the Quarter-Finals, an outstanding result against one of the most in-form players on the WTA Tour at the moment. He played excellent defense in that match, nullifying that big Croatian’s serve. Although he is the big underdog here against Matteo Berrettini, he will be very confident after that win over Cilic and has a decent chance at the upset.

This will surprisingly be the first meeting between the two players, and it is sure to be a very entertaining match. This is a classic encounter between offense and defense, and both players will like their chances of getting the win here. All things considered, I am backing the top seeded Matteo Berrettini to get the win here in a hard fought match. The Italian has some of the biggest strokes on the ATP Tour, and once hs can keep his errors down I expect him to dominate Alex De Minaur from the baseline. The Aussie is very experienced and will not give up without a fight, but ultimately he will lose here. Matteo Berrettini will win here, advancing to the Final at the 2021 Queen’s Open.
