TennisSection previews the 2021 Halle Open as Felix Auger-Aliassime meets Ugo Humbert in the Semi-Finals on Saturday June 19th, 2021.
Canadian star Felix Auger-Aliassime will face Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Halle Open. They are both considered two of the most promising young talents on the ATP Tour, and have been in impressive form so far. Can Auger-Aliassime reach his second consecutive grass-court Final as he prepares for Wimbledon? Or will Humbert cause the minor upset and advance to his first?
Felix Auger-Aliassime is currently ranked #20th on the ATP Tour and at the tender age of 20 already has an outstanding tennis resume. The young Canadian has long been considered a future superstar of the game, and after reaching 8 ATP Finals he is beginning to live up to those lofty expectations. After a very disappointing clay court season he has found form on grass, reaching the Final last week in Stuttgart, where he lost to Marin Cilic. After defeating his childhood idol Roger Federer he then had an easy day at the office against Marcos Giron, brushing aside the American for the loss of only five games. Due to his fantastic grass-court form he enters this match against Ugo Humbert as the slight favorite, but he won’t have it easy here.
Ugo Humbert is currently ranked #31 on the ATP Tour and is a very talented young lefty. He burst onto the scene with some outstanding performances last season, and while he has so far failed to replicate that in 2021, he has seemingly found form here on the grass at the 2021 Halle Open. After reaching the Quarter-Finals last week in Stuttgart, he replicated that feat by defeating Sam Querry in the First Round, and then stunning third seed Alexander Zverev in the Round of 16. He then had a tough three set win over young American star Sebastian Korda, playing some impressive attacking tennis en route to a 6-2, 6-7, 6-4 win. While he is considered the slight underdog here against Felix Auger-Aliassime, he also is in great form and has a solid chance of reaching the Final here in Halle.
This will be the third meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with the head to head series tied at 1-1. Interestingly, both of their meetings have been on grass, and were both extremely close matches. This is a very difficult match to predict as both men are in top form, but I have to give the edge to FAA. He is fresh from a Finals appearance in Stuttgart, and has a bit more firepower than the Frenchman Ugo Humbert. This match will be extremely close with a high chance of going the distance, but the more experienced Felix Auger-Aliassime should get the close win here at the 2021 Halle Open, advancing to his second consecutive grass-court Final.
