TennisSection previews the 2021 French Open as Novak Djokovic (1) meets Stefanos Tsitsipas (5) in the Final on Sunday June 13th, 2021.
World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas is into the first Grand Slam Final of his young career after an outstanding 2021 season. Can he conquer world number one Novak Djokovic who is in search of his 19th? Both men have displayed outstanding tennis to get this far and are fully deserving to be in the Final here at the 2021 French Open, who will get the win and become the 2021 Champion?
Novak Djokovic is the world number one player and is the top seed here at the 2021 French Open. After cruising through his first two matches, he found himself struggling against Italians Lorenzo Musetti and Matteo Berrettini, needing to summon his best tennis to get out of some tight spots. In this type of form, not many would have given him much chance against the “King of Clay” Rafael Nadal in the Semi-Finals, who was in fantastic form. As he has done many times throughout his career, the Serbian star pulled his best tennis out of a hat, coming from a 5-0 deficit in the first set to cause the stunning upset. This was only the third time that the Spaniard has lost at Roland Garros, and in a match of this magnitude Djokovic must be considered the favorite to win his second French Open crown here over Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings and is the fifth seed here at Roland Garros 2021. The Greek star has had an outstanding season, and will look to top it off with a maiden Grand Slam title. He seemed down and out in his Semi-Final match against Alexander Zverev, after he let a two sets to love led slip away. He came roaring back to claim the impressive five set win, displaying tremendous maturity that will have him full of confidence heading into this match. Although he is considered the underdog here against world number one Novak Djokovic, he has shown that he is ready to claim his place at the top of the men’s game, and is capable of winning the title here at the 2021 French Open. His serve will be key here if he is to defeat the top seed here in Paris.
This will be the eighth meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Djokovic leading the head to head 5-2. This is sure to be a blockbuster match, with both men at the top of their games at the moment, and fully capable of getting the win. Novak Djokovic obviously has the edge in terms of experience, and is a former champion here, while Tsitsipas has spent a lot less time on court, and will be a lot fresher. This is a tough match to call, but I am going with experience over youth here and backing Novak Djokovic to win his second Roland Garros title here. You can never count him out, and one can bet that he will be fully ready and up for the challenge here at the 2021 French Open. I expect it to be a very tight match, likely going the distance, but Novak Djokovic will get the hard fought victory here, winning his 19th Grand Slam title here at Roland Garros 2021.
