Barbora Krejcikova won in over 3 hours, winning 7-5/4-6/9-7, and when she was up 8-7 (30-40) with match point, Maria Sakkari hit the ball 11mm out, but the umpire ruled it in. However, Barbora was able to maintain her composure during this extremely tight and tough moment, and she still was able to get the break eventually to win the match and make her way to her maiden Singles Grand Slam Title. Barbora will now need to rest a lot as she is going to play her Doubles Semi-final match on Friday and then has to play against a very tough Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Can she be able to maintain her energy up, or will it be too much for her?
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has made her maiden Grand Slam Final here at the 2021 French Open after having entered 52 Grand Slams throughout her tournament. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova beat Tamara Zidansek in the Semi-finals in straight sets 7-5/6-3. This was a huge win for Anastasia as we have always known she has the tennis to do great things, but she has consistently lost in big tournaments in the Quarter-finals. Anastasia will be happy with her form, and she will also be happy that Barbora Krejcikova will have to recover more than she needs to, especially after that tough match against Maria Sakkari and her next match in the Doubles Semi-final.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Barbora Krejcikova have never met before, with their first meeting being on one of the biggest stages in the tennis world. Both players have given it their all over the last two weeks. They are both deserving of the win, but as we all know, there are no draws in tennis. If Barbora Krejcikova had been able to win her match against Maria Sakkari in straight sets, as well as not having to play the Doubles on Friday, I would be inclined to back her. However, she played for over 3 hours, then has to play on Friday as well, not giving her enough time to recover and focus on her gameplan against Anastasia. This will give Anastasia the edge and she will win her maiden Grand Slam Title here at the 2021 French Open on her 52nd attempt.
