TennisSection previews the 2021 French Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas (5) meets John Isner (31) in the Third Round on Friday June 4th, 2021.
The Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas will face the veteran John Isner of America in the Third Round of the 2021 French Open. Tsitsipas has been outstanding so far this season and is one of the main contenders for the title here at Roland Garros. Will he continue his fine form by getting the win here? Or can Isner cause the upset and advance to the Round of 16?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is the world number five player and is also seeded fifth here at Roland Garros 2021. He has been in fantastic form so far this year and currently leads the ATP Race to Turin. After winning his first career ATP-1000 title in Monte-Carlo, he has strated his 2021 French Open campaign strongly, and is yet to drop a set over two matches. The Greek super star was clinical in his 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 win over Pedro Martinez in the Second Round, and will look to do the same here against the big-serving John Isner. This will be his toughest opponent so far and once he is able to handle the massive weapon that is the Isner serve, Tsitsipas should be favored to advance to the Round of 16 here at Roland Garros.
John Isner is currently ranked #34 in the ATP world rankings, and is seeded #31 here at the 2021 French Open. At 36 years of age he is approaching the end of his career, but remains a very dangerous opponent on any surface due to his huge serve. That weapon is considered one of the greatest serves in tennis history, and can almost single-handedly carry him to victory. Like his opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas, the American is yet to drop a set here at Roland Garros 2021, with two straight-sets victories over Sam Querry and Filip Krajinovic. While Isner should be considered the underdog here, he should never be discounted due to his serve and massive experience and will be a stern test for Tsitsipas here.
This will be the sixth meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, with Tsitsipas leading the head to head series 3-2. Both men are very solid players and are highly experienced which is sure to make for a high quality match here at the 2021 French Open. While John Isner is a good player and will make it interesting with his serve, I see him losing here. Stefanos Tsitsipas has taken his game to another level this year and is a very serious contender for the title here. He has won the last three times that the pair have played, and I expect this to continue here. Stefanos Tsitsipas will win here in three or four tight sets, advancing to the Round of 16 here at Roland Garros 2021.
