TennisSection previews the 2023 Adelaide International as Jannik Sinner takes on Kyle Edmund in the Round of 32 on Monday, January 2, 2023.

Will Jannik Sinner get the win? Will Kyle Edmund pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have the young talent taking on a player on a comeback run. Who will triumph and move through to the Round of 16 at the Adelaide International?
Jannik Sinner had a somewhat disappointing 2022 rankings-wise, but his level definitely went up and we saw a lot of great things from him. Despite struggling with many injuries, I expect him to come into Australia fresh and extremely motivated. Kyle Edmund is a good first opponent to test him and to see how he’ll fare in Aussie conditions. Let’s see if the Italian can get his 2023 campaign off to a good start here at the 2023 Adelaide International.

Kyle Edmund, meanwhile, has been struggling with injuries for quite a few years now, and as he looks to make his return to the ATP once again, he won’t be too happy to see Jannik Sinner as the first opponent in his draw. If he wants to get the win, he’ll have to hope that Sinner isn’t at his best, or else I don’t see much hope for him to advance to the last 16 at the 2023 Adelaide International.
Jannik Sinner and Kyle Edmund have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Edmund has had some great success in the past here in Australia, reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open in 2018. If he wants to recreate his successes, he’ll have to play some aggressive tennis, particularly against Jannik Sinner who will be too solid for him from the baseline. Let’s see if Sinner can get off to the perfect start at the 2023 Adelaide International.
