Kaja Juvan will have a very big task on her hand right from the start here at Roland Garros 2021 as she meets the most in form player on clay for the last year, Iga Swiatek. Although Kaja Juvan has a lot of experience for a 20 yea old, having played 200 matches on the WTA Tour and having won 11 matches this year alone, I am unsure of her level as she has lost her last 3 matches. Kaja Juvan is ranked 101st in the world, and she will have to find another level if she wants to cause the huge upset in the Round of 128 at the 2021 French Open.
Iga Swiatek is becoming one of the best players on the WTA Tour with her amazing consistency both in 2020 and 2021. This year, Iga has won 2 titles already, including the Rome Masters a couple weeks ago where she won the final in the most dominant fashion in WTA history, in straight sets 6-0/6-0. Iga Swiatek and clay is an amazing combination, and she just seems to be able to hit the ball with incredible accuracy and her movement is impeccable. After winning the title here last year, I am sure she will be very confident in her ability to do the same again this year. However, she needs to ensure she starts off strongly against Kaja Juvan right from the start in order to keep the momentum going.
Iga Swiatek and Kaja Juvan have met 1 time before, with Iga Swiatek leading the head to head 1-0. They met earlier this year in Melbourne where Swiatek won in 3 sets 2-6/6-2/6-1. Although that was a 3-set match where both could have won, I don’t see that happening here. Iga Swiatek is incredible on clay, and she has won Roland Garros before. Kaja Juvan has not won a title yet, and she has lost her last 3 matches in a row. Iga Swiatek will come out here and continue dominating as she was doing in Rome a couple weeks ago.
