TennisSection previews the 2021 Parma Open as Sebastian Korda meets Marco Cecchinato in the Final on Saturday May 29th 2021.
Can the exciting young talent Sebastian Korda win the first title of his promising career? Or will the Italian veteran Marco Cecchinato be able to claim his third? Both men have been in fantastic form so far here at the 2021 Parma Open and fully deserve to be in the Final. Who will get the win here?
Sebastian Korda is currently ranked #63 in the ATP world rankings, and has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting NextGen players on the ATP Tour. The son of former Australian Open champion Petr Korda had an outstanding start to the 2021 season with a Finals appearance in Delray Beach followed by making the Semi-Finals at the Miami Masters. However, he has been in very poor form to start the clay court season, with a 1-4 record prior to the start of the 2021 Parma Open. Korda has struck form at the right time, and has crushed players like Lorenzo Sonego and Tommy Paul to reach the first clay court Final of his young career. In this current form, he enters this match as the favorite over the experienced Marco Cecchinato, but should not underestimate the Italian, once considered one of the top clay-court players in the world.
Marco Cecchinato has been rolling back the clock here at the 2021 Parma Open, and will be delighted to reach his first Final since 2017. The Italian was once a top 20 player and had an astonishing run to the Roland Garros Semis a few years ago, but has been in miserable form since. Now finding himself ranked #104, he clearly not the player he once was but is a dangerous opponent on this surface. He has been impressive this week here at home, defeating the in-form Jaume Munar in three sets to reach the Final. While he starts this match as the underdog, he should not be discounted due to his vast experience, and his three clay-court titles. He is up against a red-hot Sebastian Korda and will have to be at his absolute best to win here.
This will be the first meeting between the two players on the ATP Tour, and their head to head record stands at 0-0. Both men have played great tennis this week here at the 2021 Parma Open and fully deserve to be in the Final, but only one can win. I expect that winner to be the young American Sebastian Korda. He has been simply outstanding this week here in Italy, and seems unstoppably at the moment. Marco Cecchinato is an extremely dangerous player on this surface, but when Korda is playing well he simply has too much firepower for the veteran. I expect Sebastian Korda to win this match comfortably, claiming the first ATP title of his young career.
