TennisSection previews the 2021 Parma Open as Jan-Lennard Struff (4) meets Tommy Paul (6) in the Quarter-finals on Thursday, May 27th 2021.
Will Tommy Paul be able to cause the upset in the Quarter-finals to give himself a strong chance of making his way to the Final? Will Jan-Lennard Struff improve after a tough opening match here against the young and low ranked wildcard? Both players can win this match if they are playing at their highest level, but only one will make their way to the Semi-finals of the 2021 Parma Open. Who will it be?
Tommy Paul was able to beat the always tough Czech, Jiri Vesely, in the Round of 16, coming back from a set down and beating him in 3 sets 6-7/7-6/6-3. It was a very tight match right until the end, and I am sure that Tommy Paul will be happy with his ability to keep himself composed during the tight moments to get the win. Now, Tommy needs to raise his level even more as he meets a big swinging and shockingly good clay courter in Jan-Lennard Struff in the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Parma Open, and I am sure he wants to beat the German to get one step closer to the title.
Jan-Lennard Struff had to come through an extremely tight match in the Round of 16, beating the young wildcard Flavio Cobolli in 3 sets 6-4/4-6/7-6. The match was way tighter than anyone expected, and I believe that Jan-Lennard Struff underestimated his opponent once he had won the first set. Jan-Lennard was able to get anyway with that just because Flavio has only ever played 2 matches on the ATP Tour, however, if Stuff wants to win this match against Tommy Paul, he needs to raise his level and concentration throughout the entire match. Can the big swinging German be able to make his way to the Semi-finals of the 2021 Parma Open?
Jan-Lennard Struff and Jiri Vesely have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. They have played some great tennis all week here at the 2021 Parma Open, and I expect for this to be a tight match as Struff is not playing at his best, whilst Paul is playing some strong tennis. With all of that considered, I still see Jan-Lennard Struff’s big serve and forehand allowing him to win the match eventually as he is more suited to clay court conditions compared to Tommy Paul who finds more success in hard court tournaments.
