Can Cameron Norrie come out here once again at the 2021 Estoril Open and cause a big upset as he looks to make his way to the Final? Will Marin Cilic continue to play strongly here in Estoril as he has done all week in the hopes of getting his first title on the ATP Tour in a very long time? Both players can win this match if on top of their game, but only one will make their way to the Final. Who will it be?
Cameron Norrie will be extremely happy with his performance in the Quarter-finals, beating the highest seed remaining in the tournament, Cristian Garin, in 3 sets 3-6/7-5/6-3. Cameron Norrie did not seem as if he would win that match for the vast majority of it, but late on in the second set, he was able to turn things around extremely well with some variation of shot making. Cameron Norrie showed great composure, especially as Cristian Garin is a very strong player on clay. However, he will now meet a Grand Slam champion in Marin Cilic in the Semi-finals of the 2021 Estoril Open.
Marin Cilic came through an extremely tight first set against Kevin Anderson, winning 7-6(7), before Kevin Anderson had to retire to prevent further injury to his knees. Marin Cilic was able to handle the firepower of Kevin Anderson and move around the court very well. Marin Cilic is improving with every match he plays and I am sure that if he is able to recover well enough after every match and improve his confidence, he will soon get back to a very high level which will see him reach the later stages of not only ATP 250 tournaments, but also bigger tournaments. Marin will know that if he beats Cameron Norrie, he will have a very strong chance of winning the title here in Estoril.
Marin Cilic and Cameron Norrie have never met before, with this being their first meeting on the ATP Tour. This is definitely going to be a tight match, especially as Cameron Norrie will be feeling very confident from his win over Cristian Garin. However, at the end of the day, I think that Marin Cilic will ensure he uses his experience to bring out his best tennis in this Semi-final of the 2021 Estoril Open. Marin Cilic to win.
