TennisSection previews the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters as Stefanos Tsitsipas (4) meets Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Quarter-Finals on Friday April 16th, 2021.
An interesting match awaits us at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters as fourth seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas will face Alejandro Davidovich of Spain in the Quarter-Finals. Both men have been outstanding so far here in Monaco and this is shaping up to be an exciting battle. Will the Greek star advance here as expected? Or can the unseeded Spaniard cause the shocking upset and advance here in Monte-Carlo?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked a career-high #5 in the ATP world rankings and has had an outstanding year so far in 2021. While he has been very consistent with his results, he is still awaiting his first title and will eager to add this one to his collection here at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters. He is yet to drop a set here in Monaco, with two fantastic wins over good opponents in Aslan Karatsev and Cristian Garin. The Greek star’s confidence will be sky high, and while he is more well known for his hard court success, he is a very dangerous player on this surface. When serving well, he is very tough to beat with his heavy groundstrokes. He enters this Quarter-Final against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina as the heavy favorite for good reason.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina has been somewhat of a surprise package here at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters, advancing to his first career ATP-1000 Quarter-Final. The world number #58 has always been a talented player, but finally seems to be putting it all together here. A very flashy player with all the shots in the book, he has sometimes struggled with consistency and focus throughout his career, but seems to be fully locked in here in Monaco. Like his opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas, he has been outstanding here so far, and is also yet to drop a set with wins over Alex De Minaur, Matteo Berrettini and Lucas Pouille. He enters this match as the huge underdog but is certainly capable of pushing the Greek if he plays well.
This will be the first meeting between the two players, and their head to head record stands at 0-0. Both men have been equally as good so far here at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters. Despite his good form, Alejandro Davidovich likely won’t have the firepower necessary to trouble his much higher ranked opponent Stefanos Tsitspas. The Greek has cemented his spot in the top 5 of the rankings and is one of the very best players in the world. He has matured greatly as a player in recent times and it is not likely that he will let this opportunity slip. Expect Stefanos Tsitsipas to dominate this match from start to finish and advance to the Semi-Finals here in Monaco.
