Andrey Rublev absolutely destroyed Salvatore Caruso in his Second Round match, beating the Italian in straight sets 6-3/6-2. Rublev was ready from the get go in this match and he was very accustom to the conditions already as he had played some matches in doubles already. Rublev is in great form, and he will know that out of all of the young players on the ATP Tour, he is definitely the best one on clay-courts, outside of Dominic Thiem. Andrey is going to be very confident after his first match here in Monte-Carlo, however, he knows he is going to have to be at his absolute best in this Third Round match as he meets the always tough and consistent Roberto Bautista Agut on Thursday, otherwise he might as well pack his bags and go onto the next tournament.
Roberto Bautista Agut cruised through his Second Round match here against the up and coming American Tommy Paul, beating him in straight sets 6-3/6-4. Roberto was in the lead right from the start of that match and he was able to continue wearing his opponent down with 20+ shot rallies every other point. Roberto Bautista Agut is just one of the most consistent players out there on the ATP Tour, and he is able to continuously put pressure on his opponents as he has great stamina, precision with his shot selection, and a lot of experience on the ATP Tour. Roberto knows that if he continues to play at a high level, as he has done this year, he will add some more trophies to his cabinet. However, if he wants to do so here at the 2021 Monte-Carlo Masters, he will have to beat Andrey Rublev along the way.
Andrey Rublev and Roberto Bautista Agut have met 5 times before, with Roberto Bautista Agut leading the head to head 3-2. Show everyone that he can beat big players in big tournaments.
