Simona Halep will be looking to bounce back after her tough loss to Serena Williams in the Quarter-finals of the 2021 Australian Open over a month ago. Halep played some great tennis at the Australian Open, but when it mattered most, she was not able to give Serena Williams her best. Halep will still be very confident coming into this tournament as she has put in a lot of hard work behind closed doors to get her game up to speed with both the conditions, but also with the competitive level of the rest of the WTA Tour. Simona Halep certainly has a Grand Slam in her in 2021, and I believe that if she is able to win here in Miami, she will play the rest of the year at the top of her game. Caroline Garcia put on a very solid performance in the First Round, beating Mihaela Buzarnescu in a very easy match in 2 sets, 6-1/6-2. Both players could have won that match if they were on top of their game, but Garcia just came out stronger from the get go, not letting Buzarnescu even stand a chance. Garcia will know that she will have to drastically increase her level here in the Second Round as she meets Simona Halep here in Miami. 2021 is still a season of chaos in the tennis world, and I am sure that if Garcia is able to ever cause such a big upset against Simona Halep, it will be this year. However, even in this year of chaos, she will have to make sure she keeps her unforced errors down even lower than what they were in her First Round match.
This is going to be the eigth meeting between Caroline Garcia and Simona Halep, with Simona Halep leading the head to head 6-1. This will be a very interesting encounter as Simona Halep has not played in over a month, whilst Garcia has had some competitive minutes here in Miami already. Both players can win this one if they are on top of their game, but I think that at the end of the day, the experience, determination, and passion for the game will give Simona Halep the edge in this match. Simona Halep will be very determined to get herself in the Top 2 in the world this year, and she can do just that if she wins the title here in Miami. Simona Halep to win.
