TennisSection previews the 2021 Acapulco Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas (1) meets Alexander Zverev (2) in the Final on Saturday March 20th, 2021.
This is the Final that everyone that has been waiting for and it is sure to be a blockbuster. The top two seeds, Stefanos Tsitsipas (1) an Alexander Zverev (2) collide as expected in Acapulco, with both men seeking their first title of the 2021 ATP season. The Greek star enters this match as the slight favorite but given their current form, it is very tough to separate the two. Each player has been hugely impressive thus far here in Mexico and is equally deserving of the title. Who will win here?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is currently ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings. The Greek superstar has been having an outstanding year, with some very consistent results. He is still chasing his first title of the season after some close calls, and will be hugely motivated here. So far at the 2021 Acapulco Open he has been in dominant form, only losing one set en route to the Final. Tsitsipas displayed some fantastic tennis in the Quarter-Finals against Lorenzo Musetti, dismantling the youngster 6-1, 6-3. He served very well, winning 80% of his first serve points and dominated the Italian with his forehand. Tsitsipas seems very determined to claim his 7th career ATP title and enters this match as the slight favorite against Alexander Zverev.
Second seeded Alexander Zverev enters this match with some serious form, having not dropped a set so far here at the 2021 Acapulco Open. He defeated countryman Dominik Koepfer in the Quarter-Final 6-4, 7-6 in a high quality match by both players. Like his opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas, he has served well throughout the tournament, and has impressed with his maturity and mental strength. While he is the slight underdog here, especially given Tsitsipas’ superior head to head record, he is riding some serious momentum and is capable of beating anyone on a good day. The German superstar is also very eager to claim his first title of the 2021 season and is playing some inspired tennis. If he can keep his unforced error count low, and serve well under pressure, he has a very good chance of winning here.
The two players have faced each other six times throughout their careers, with Tsitsipas leading the head to head series by a whopping 5-1. Interestingly, he has won the last three matches against Alexander Zverev in straight sets. This is sure to be a ferocious battle between two men that have firmly established themselves among the world’s best. They are in equally good form, with Zverev being a bit more impressive here in Mexico. It is hard to pick a winner here, but I am giving the edge to the Greek star, as he has had a better 2021 season, and has such a dominant head to head record. Three sets is a very likely scenario, but Tsitsipas has displayed that extra gear that Zverev does not quite have, and he has a bit more firepower than the big German. It will be a tough match for sure, but expect Stefanos Tsitsipas to win and become the 2021 Acapulco Open Champion.
