Absolutely no-one could have predicted that the young Italian would have reached his stage, but here he is. Can he go one step further and defeat the 5th ranked Stefanos Tsitsipas who the main contender for this title? Or will the Greek superstar get the win and advance to his first Final of the 2021 season. Regardless of the outcome, it is sure to be a very exciting match between two flashy, aggressive players. Who will win and reach the final here in Mexico?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is ranked #5 in the ATP world rankings, and has truly established himself as a global tennis superstar. Off to a great start in 2021, he has continued that momentum by being dominant here at the 2021 Acapulco Open. After brushing aside Benoit Paire and John Isner in the first two rounds, he overcame a huge challenge to defeat Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Quarter-Finals. While he was truly tested by the young Canadian, Tsitsipas hit another gear in the third set, showing what level of tennis he is capable of. He has served extremely well throughout this tournament, and it will be tough for the Italian to cope with that. He enters this match as the overwhelming favorite, and it would be a huge shock if he was to lose here, but he will certainly be weary of his opponent’s giant-killing potential.
Lorenzo Musetti is currently ranked 114th in the world rankings and has again shocked the tennis world here at an ATP-500 event. After his run to the Round of 16 at the 2021 Italian Open he has taken it one step further, with three consecutive huge upsets over Schwartzman, Tiafoe and Dimitrov en route to the Semi-Finals. At only 19 years of age he possesses a huge and very versatile game, and will be sure to make Tsitsipas thing despite being the huge underdog. He seemingly plays without pressure, with huge swings from both sides. He again will be up against a heavily favored opponent, but after his recent exploits, bettors must be weary of him by now.
The two players have never faced each other on the ATP Tour, and their head to head record stands at 0-0. On paper, this is a classic “David vs. Goliath” match, and Stefanos Tsitsipas is the overwhelming favorite. However, one must consider the facts – Tsitsipas has traditionally struggled late in tournaments, having lost two Semi-Finals this year. Lorenzo Musetti is the huge underdog, but he has been in that position three consecutive times and come out on top each time. Tsitsipas is heavily favored here and for good reason. He is very likely to win this match but it certainly won’t be easy for him. The Greek star has matured a lot as a player and is unlikely to take his opponent lightly. I am going with Stefanos Tsitsipas to win here, in two close sets. I think he is the much superior player, but will surely be feeling the pressure of being a heavy favorite, and his opponent is in fantastic form. Stefanos Tsitsipas will win this match and advance to the final here at the 2021 Acapulco in a thriller.
