TennisSection previews the 2022 Basel Open as Alexander Bublik takes on Albert Ramos Vinolas in the Round of 16 on Thursday, October 27th, 2022.

With his shock first-round win over Lorenzo Musetti, Albert Ramos Vinolas fired a warning shot that you should only write him off at your peril. He will now face the charismatic but always volatile Alexander Bublik for a place in the quarterfinals. Who will prevail?
Alexander Bublik inflicted yet another defeat onto Aslan Karatsev at the Basel Open. Bublik, whose solitary ATP titlecame in Montpellier earlier this season, has now notched 13 wins on the surface – joining a select few with double digit match wins at Tour-level on indoor hard courts this season. The Kazakh bounced back from his disappointing quarterfinal defeat in Florence to J.J. Wolf, as he played Karatsev off the court with his big serve. Overall, he tallied 10 aces and averaged at least 80% points won behind both his first and second serve.

Albert Ramos Vinolas, meanwhile, stunned Lorenzo Musetti in his first-round match at the Basel Open. Ramos Vinolas entered this contest without a single win on indoor hard courts in four years. But despite owning that shoddy record, the Spanish left hander took advantage of a fatigued opponent, whose title hangover from Naples seemed to engulf him in this match.
Alexander Bublik leads Albert Ramos Vinolas 2-0 in their head-to-head. That includes their 2020 meeting on Ramos Vinolas’ favorite surface in Hamburg. The Spaniard raised a lot of eyebrows with his comeback win over Musetti in the first roundat the Basel Open. But the Italian’s level was flat after taking the first set and you would probably expect it from a young player who had just hoisted a tour-level title on home turf. Bublikshould not have such problems here. While he is still as unpredictable as ever, I would still be shocked if he doesn’t get the job done on Thursday.
