This is sure to be a very interesting match between Italian #6 seed Fabio Fognini, and Cameron Norrie of Great Britain. Both players were in great form in their opening match here at the 2021 Acapulco Open in Mexico, each winning in straight sets. Can the British number two cause the upset? Or will it be the talented Italian getting the win here and advancing to the Quarter-Finals?
Fabio Fognini is currently ranked #18 in the ATP world rankings, and is known as one of the most talented players in world tennis. However, he is also one of the most unpredictable, often losing matches that he is expected to win easily. On the flip side, he has numerous top 10 wins, so it is very difficult to know what to expect with him. He was impressive in his win over countryman Stefano Travaglia in the First Round, winning in straight sets by displaying fantastic attacking tennis. He dominated his opponent from the baseline, especially using his backhand to great effect. He will be hoping to do the same here against Cameron Norrie, and enters this match as the firm favorite to advance here at the 2021 Acapulco Open.
Cameron Norrie is the British #2 player and is ranked #61 in the ATP Rankings. A solid but unspectacular baseliner, he gives very little away and it is necessary to hit through him. He started the year well, with a Semi-Final appearance at the Delray Beach Open, and reached the Third Round at the Australian Open. However, he has two early round losses since, in Rotterdam and Marseille. He will be hoping for a lot more consistency in his results in 2021, and has started his 2021 Acapulco Open campaign strongly. Norrie defeated Stefan Kozlov 6-3, 6-3 and will be hoping to go deeper into the draw. While he enters this match as the huge underdog, he will know how unpredictable Fabio Fognini can be and will be hopeful of an upset.
This will be the second meeting between the two players, with the Italian leading the head to head 1-0. The outcome of this match depends on Fabio Fognini. Simply put, if he is fully locked in and committed, he has all the tools to win easily here. However, if he is distracted or gets into any disputes with the officials etc, he can just as easily lose here. Cameron Norrie has exactly the type of consistent game that can frustrate the Italian, and will be looking to take full advantage of any slip-ups in concentration. It is always difficult to back Fognini but I am going to here. He is well rested and seems ready to go deep into the draw here at the 2021 Acapulco Open. Fabio Fognini will get the win and advance to the Quarter-Finals.
