TennisSection previews the 2021 Qatar Open as Andrey Rublev (3) meets Marton Fucsovics in the Quarter-Finals on Thursday, March 11 2021.
Will Marton Fucsovics be able to get the best of Andrey Rublev after not being able to do the same thing last week when they met in the 2021 Rotterdam Open Final? Will Andrey Rublev continue to win in his incredible form as he looks to defend his title here in Qatar? Both players are playing some great tennis at the moment, but only one can come through. Who will book their spot in the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Qatar Open?
Andrey Rublev will be very relieved after what happened to his match in the second round. Andrey was scheduled to play Richard Gasquet on Wednesday in the first match of the day, however, Gasquet had to withdraw from the tournament before the match even begun due to leg injury concerns. Andrey Rublev will be optimistic about not having to play yet as he will be looking to get all his energy back up after having played lights out tennis all of last week at the Rotterdam Open. Now at the Qatar Open, Rublev will be very determined to retain his title as he meets Marton Fucsovics in the Quarter-Finals on Thursday. Will we see Marton Fucsovics finally beat Andrey Rublev or will Rublev continue to dominate the Men’s Tour and extend his lead at the top of the W/L rankings?
Marton Fucsovics has been playing some great tennis recently. Reaching the 2021 Rotterdam Open Final just last week by winning 6 matches in 6 days and beating Lloyd Harris here at the 2021 Qatar Open in 3 sets 4-6/7-6/6-2. Marton Fucsovics seems to have found his mojo early this year, and this shows promising signs of a very solid 2021 season. Fuscovics is just outpowering his opponents at the moment, and I am sure he will be very determined to get revenge for his loss last week against Andrey Rublev as he meets him in the Quarter-Finals on Thursday. Can Fucsovics get the job done here and make his way to the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Qatar Open against Andrey Rublev?
This is going to be the fifth meeting between both players, with the head to head standing tied between Andrey Rublev and Marton Fucsovics at 2-2. Last time they met was just last week in the Final of the Rotterdam Open where Rublev won in straight sets 7-6/6-4. This will definitely give Andrey a lot of confidence coming into this match after his title win on Sunday. Both of these players are in superb form at the moment, but Andrey has more at stake here and he will be willing to put more effort in this match. Rublev is the defending Champion and he will have had more time to rest and recover after that very physical week in Rotterdam. Unfortunately for Marton Fucsovics, the loss against Rublev on Sunday will not aid him in any way, shape, or form coming into this match as Rublev will be filled with confidence.
