Madison Keys and Petra Martic will meet for the first time on grass. The head-to-head is finely poised in Martic’s favor 2-1. Keys hadn’t played since the French Open, so it took her a bit of time to adjust to grass, and escaped with a hard-fought 7-6, 6-4 win over Tereza Martincova in her opener. In the second round, the American’s power overwhelmed China’s Xiyu Wang, although she was forced to save four set points at 5-6 down in the second set and prevailed 6-2, 7-6 in nearly two hours.

Martic, for her part, entered the draw as a lucky loser and upset British favorite Katie Boulter in straight sets. The Croat then sailed past Brazilian lefty Beatriz Haddad Maia who retired with injury while 6-4, 3-2 down. Martic is making the most of this second chance and she hasn’t been broken thus far in the main draw. While grass isn’t her strongest surface, the Croat has great hand skills and net presence, that should enable her to mix it up and take the game to keys. We like Martic to at least take a set at -154 odds.
