Coco Gauff has spoken candidly about her game (her forehand too) and her ambitions for this year’s French Open. While I feel the criticism aimed at Gauff has been harsh, she’s only 19! Gauff is the highest-ranked teenager in the standings at the moment and she’s got loads of time to improve and have a stellar career. As first rounds go, she’s got a tricky one at the 2023 French Open taking on the fast-improving Rebeka Masarova. Masarova was thrashed 6-1, 6-1 in the Auckland final, but the situation was slightly different back then. Masarova came through qualies that week and was running out of fumes in the final. Hard courts are not where she normally plays her best tennis. This is a tough opening test for Gauff and I reckon she’ll get it done in two tight sets.
