Caty McNally will be gunning for her second career WTA 125K title at the Trophée Clarins in Paris. Her previous title at this level came at the Dow Tennis Classic in Midland, Michigan on indoor hard courts last season. This, however, is her best run on clay at WTA level. She’s won a couple of doubles titles on the dirt, but nothing of substance in singles. McNally needed to play out of her skin at times during the week, beating former French Open semifinalist Tamara Zidansek in two tiebreak sets and then cooling off compatriot Katie Volynets in three sets in Saturday’s semifinal. Her opponent Diane Parry has now reached her second semifinal in a row on the dirt after bowing out to Ella Seidel at the W60 ITF in Zagreb a week ago. Parry who last year made waves at Roland Garros when she ousted then-defending champion Krejcikova in the French Open first round will attempt to win her second title at 125K level. She won her first in Monte Video almost two years ago. Parry has played with finesse and a deft touch of great backhand skill to put her opponents to the sword including talented Czech Linda Noskova and high-flying Varvara Gracehva. In fact, her 6-2, 6-0 win over the Russian was her most accomplished performance of the season. McNally has a wealth of experience playing top-tier opponents on Tour, but Parry is no stranger to the big stage. The Frenchwoman has silky hands with a game tailor-made for clay. If she serves as effortlessly as she has done throughout the week, Parry might have enough in her locker to outwit the American.
