2019 Charleston Open champion Madison Keys will face off against Poland’s No. 2 Magda Linette for the second time this season. Will Keys defeat the Pole again?
Madison Keys is not among the top eight seeds at the 2023 Charleston Open, so she had to play a couple of matches to reach the round of 16, unlike Magda Linette. But Keys did not flinch as she blitzed past Emma Navarro and Hailey Baptiste without dropping a set. The power-hitting Keys remains one the most decorated players in the tournament. She has been to two finals here and won the title in 2019.
Magda Linette, for her part, won an instant classic against Russia’s newest star Varvara Gracheva in three sets. In the process, she avenged her loss to the same opponent in Austin a few weeks ago. It took the best part of three hours before Gracheva skied the final point after another grueling rally. Linette will be on a revenge mission again having lost to Madison Keys at this year’s United Cup.
Keys vs Linette Prediction and Pick
Madison Keys leads Magda Linette 2-1 in their head-to-head. But none of those three meetings have come on clay, with their most recent match being the United Cup singles rubber which Keys won in straight sets this January. Linette has done well to shake off the rust in Miami and carried a bit of momentum to South Carolina. However, Keys will once again be the favorite in this matchup. She’s been tough to beat at the Charleston Open over the years and we reckon she will get it done in a tight two-setter.
