US Open 2022: Tommy Paul vs. Bernabe Zapata Miralles Tennis Pick and Prediction

Tommy Paul will face Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the First Round of the 2022 US Open. The match will be played on Monday August 29th, 2022.

Tommy Paul has been in good form this year and will be hoping to delight the local fans with a deep run here at the 2022 US Open. He will face the unfancied Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the First Round, but history has shown us that anything is possible early on in a Grand Slam. Can Zapata Miralles stun the American and break the home crowd’s hearts?

33rd ranked American Tommy Paul enters the 2022 US Open as one of the top local hopefuls to go on a deep run. He has had some success this year but tends to be very inconsistent with his results, so he will be hoping for a good week here at Flushing Meadows. After an impressive week in Montreal where he reached the Quarters, he was bounced out in Cincinnati despite being up a set and two breaks against Denis Shapovalov. That loss surely will still be on his mind and it really was a stunning turn of events. He plays a fearless brand of tennis and is very solid from the baseline when things are clicking, and he has a very winnable match here against Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the First Round.

Bernabe Zapata Miralles is ranked 79th in the world, over 40 spots behind his First Round opponent Tommy Paul here at the 2022 US Open. The Spaniard hasn’t had a great year to be honest, but enters this event on the back of some success, winning a Challenger event in Germany. While that will have been good for his confidence it really doesn’t mean much at the ATP level and he has his back up against the wall as he will face Tommy Paul. The American is the big favorite here, especially with the local support but Miralles will be hoping for an inconsistent display from his opponent to give himself a chance.

These two players have never met on the ATP Tour, and I am expecting a rather comfortable win for Tommy Paul here. He has too much firepower for Bernabe Zapata Miralles, especially on this quicker surface and even with his inconsistencies, I don’t see him having too much trouble here. Paul has had some good results on hard this season, and I expect that to continue here at the US Open, where he will move on to the Second Round.
