Cincinnati Masters 2022: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Borna Coric Tennis Pick and Prediction

Stefanos Tsitsipas took down his biggest hurdle in Daniil Medvedev, winning in 3 sets. The first set was a great performance from him, using the drop shot and serve and volleying to take it in the tiebreaker, but both players levels really dipped after that point, with Tsitsipas taking advantage of the 11 double faults Medvedev made in total, in particular the 4 he served in the game at 3-2. Tsitsipas played well, but for Borna Coric he’ll have to play even better as crazy as it sounds, as the Croat is playing some wonderful tennis and is serving unbelievably well. Let’s see if the Greek can do it and claim a first masters title on a hard court at the 2022 Cincinnati Open.

Borna Coric took down Cameron Norrie in a relatively easy match, making his way to the final without dropping a set, still serving very well. Today was a bit of a dropoff from both players, but I expect Coric to find his level as he clashes with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final. Coric will have the advantage from the baseline, defending well and being able to hit crosscourt backhands to the weaker wing of Tsitsipas, allowing him to dictate play from that end. The most important factor for him though, will be the serve. Let’s see if he can manage to serve his best and somehow become the champion at the 2022 Cincinnati Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Borna Coric have met twice before, with the head to head being level at 1-1. Their first meeting ended quickly, with Coric retiring at 1-4, their second meeting was a 5 set battle at the 2020 USO with Coric upsetting the fourth seed in the 3rd round. Coric will be confident going into this one, and I expect him to raise his level. If Tsitsipas wants to come through, he’ll have to be really aggressive with the forehand, and primarily try to keep that exchange. It’s going to be a tough one, but Coric just might do the unthinkable and pull off the title run here at the 2022 Cincinnati Open.
