Pablo Carreno Busta got an amazing win over Matteo Berrettini, taking him out 6-3 6-2, asserting his defensive and counterpunching skillset all over the match. This will come in quite handy as he faces Holger Rune, a guy who can be quite dangerous. PCB’s win over Berrettini showcased him being able to simply hit through the court and run down big balls, not allowing Berrettini to create opportunities. This will make him the guy to beat in this contest as the two face off for a spot in the Round of 16 at the 2022 Montreal Open.
Holger Rune hasn’t had very much success since his big run in Roland Garros where he reached the last eight. Pablo Carreno Busta will be a very challenging opponent for him as Rune is really struggling out on the court right now. He’s having trouble hitting big and playing aggressively, and PCB will take advantage of that, his consistent game will really wear out the Dane who will likely make quite a few errors which will ultimately lead to his exit from the 2022 Montreal Open.
Pablo Carreno Busta and Holger Rune have met twice before, with Pablo Carreno Busta leading the head to head 2-0. Their first meeting in 2021, on an indoor hard court, it makes sense that Rune doesn’t like an indoor hard court, and their 2nd meeting came on grass, once again, it does make sense. While the slow conditions here might be better for Rune, they’re also better for the Spaniard as he looks to make it 3-0 as he aims to advance to the last 16 at the 2022 Montreal Open.
