TennisSection previews the 2022 Kitzbuhel Open as Lorenzo Sonego takes on Pablo Andujar in the Round of 32 on Tuesday, July 26th, 2022.
Will Lorenzo Sonego get the win? Will Pablo Andujar pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have two underrated clay courters coming to a clash. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Kitzbuhel Open?
Lorenzo Sonego has had a rough go of things as of late, not really being able to pick off many wins, particularly on the clay, not really being able to pick off many wins this season. His opponent in Pablo Andujar, who, while lower ranked, is a strong player on the surface, and will be able to give him a good run for his money. In order to pick up the win, Sonego will have to look to play some aggressive tennis if he wants to move on here at the 2022 Kitzbuhel Open.
Pablo Andujar is really in the twilight of his career, but made his claim to fame last season after taking down Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem. He hasn’t really had any good results lately though, and I doubt that will be helped as he faces Lorenzo Sonego, quite a tough opponent on the surface and someone in much better standing on the ATP Tour. Let’s see if the veteran Spaniard can do anything to push the Italian as the two clash for a place in the next round of the 2022 Kitzbuhel Open.
Lorenzo Sonego and Pablo Andujar have met twice before, with the head to head being tied at 1-1. Both meetings came in 2019, before Sonego rose up in the rankings, on clay, Sonego won easily, on the hard courts of New York, Andujar returned the favor. I favor Sonego rather heavily here, but with his poor results lately I wouldn’t be surprised if he had to fight hard for a spot in the last 16 of the 2022 Kitzbuhel Open.
