Nordea Open 2022: Aslan Karatsev vs. Francisco Cerundolo Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Nordea Open as Aslan Karatsev takes on Francisco Cerundolo in the quarterfinal on Friday, July 15th, 2022.

Will Aslan Karatsev win his third successive match for the first time since the opening week of the season? Or Will Francisco Cerundolo produce another huge scalp at the Nordea Open? This should be a high quality clash to determine our first semifinalist in Bastad.

Aslan Karatsev made it to the quarterfinals of an ATP tournament for the first time since mid-February. And in a week where some serious allegations have been made regarding Karatsev’s integrity, the Russian has done his bit on the court and found the kind of form that propelled him to a career-high World No. 14. Karatsev came through a very tough opener against Lorenzo Sonego and then put on a clinic against Hugo Gaston on Wednesday, firing four aces and averaging over 70% points on serve in both his first and second serves. Can he reach his first semifinal since January at the Nordea Open?

Francisco Cerundolo will stand in Karatsev’s way in the quarterfinals of the Nordea Open. The Argentine has played superbly too to get to this stage of the tournament. He upset the French Open runner-up and the tournament’s top seed Casper Ruud in the second round, winning in three sets. Consequently, it was Cerundolo’s first top 10 win of his career and continues to enjoy a terrific debut season full time on the ATP Tour.

Aslan Karatsev and Francisco Cerundolo have not played each other on the ATP Tour. Just one spot separates these two players in the current rankings. And it seems the bookies can’t separate these two as far as the matchup is concerned. Prior to this week, you could have feasibly make a case for a comfortable Cerundolo win. But on the evidence of Karatsev’s resurgence in his last two matches, he cannot be written off.
