French Open 2022: Alexander Zverev vs. Bernabe Zapata Miralles Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 French Open as Alexander Zverev takes on Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the fourth round on Sunday, May 29th, 2022.

Alexander Zverev is in pursuit of his 14th win on the clay this season, but the German is notorious for overcomplicating his own matches. Will the German stumble when he takes on the Spanish qualifier Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the fourth round of the French Open?

Alexander Zverev had one foot out of the tournament before he collected himself and produced an incredible comeback from two sets to love down to defeat Sebastian Baez in the second round. The German saved a match point in that encounter, but there would be no such drama in his third-round match as he took down Brandon Nakashima in straight sets. Despite his struggles at Grand Slam tournaments, ironically Zverev has actually recorded some strong results on the Parisian dirt. He has reached the quarterfinals or better in three of his last four trips. Can he make it four on Sunday?

Bernabe Zapata Miralles will certainly be licking his lips at the prospect of securing another giant-killing upset on Sunday at the French Open. The Spanish qualifier has flipped every script this past week, knocking off two seeded players to reach the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time. Victories over Taylor Fritz and John Isner might be far from eye-catching wins on clay, but they are standout wins considering the career path Zapata Miralles has taken. And regardless of what happens next, he is guaranteed to break the Top 100 for the first time.

Alexander Zverev and Bernabe Zapata Miralles have not played each other on the ATP Tour. Zverev has a knack of being very passive against lesser-ranked players. Historically, these are the sort of matches the German is vulnerable to succumb. Zapata Miralles, for his part, is enjoying every minute of his stay at the French Open. However, Zverev should be far too polished for the Spanish qualifier on Sunday.
