TennisSection previews the 2022 French Open asFrances Tiafoe takes on Frances Tiafoe in the Round of 128 on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022.
Will Frances Tiafoe get the win? Will Frances Tiafoe pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have one of the best entertainers on tour taking on a tough clay courter. Who will triumph and move on to the Round of 64 at the 2022 French Open?
Frances Tiafoe played a pretty good season last year, but has ultimately dropped off in level this year, he’s shown his occasional brilliance on the clay, such as in Estoril. However, his game definitely won’t hold up too well later on in the tournament seeing as his level overall lately has been rather disappointing on top of the fact that the surface is clay, let alone such a slow one. Benjamin Bonzi is no easy player, he took out Dominic Thiem in Estoril, who, admittedly, almost anyone can take out in his current state, is still a good win. I expect Tiafoe to take him down in the end though to book his spot in the Round of 64 at the 2022 French Open.
Benjamin Bonzi will have quite the challenge on his hands coming up against Frances Tiafoe. While he may be unlikely to clinch the win, he can still put up a fight as a solid clay courter and a guy who can stay in the points. Tiafoe though with his aggressive game and beautiful groundstrokes will be looking to dictate Bonzi from the back of the court, leaving little opportunity for Benjamin to do much when it comes down to it at the 2022 French Open.
Frances Tiafoe and Benjamin Bonzi have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Bonzi doesn’t have too unique of a style, but he can do a lot out there. He’s not the biggest guy, so he’d like to grind it out with you but he’ll also be pretty aggressive once in a while. Tiafoe though, with his power and potential to be a dangerous opponent on any court, will be looking to get past Bonzi in a slightly tricky first round as he aims down a place in the last 64 of the 2022 French Open.
