Dominic Thiem definitely hasn’t had the comeback of his dreams, not winning a match back as of yet, but he’ll be looking to do so at his first grand slam appearance since the French Open last year. Hugo Dellien is a great clay courter, I think on best of 5 on the red clay of Paris, with even more time to regroup since that Geneva loss, I do think he will without a doubt be a contender here in this match. Let’s see if he can bring the magic back at the 2022 French Open and somehow make the Round of 64.
Hugo Dellien is a solid clay courter, but he hasn’t really been having the results that he’s wanted lately. Although his opponent is Dominic Thiem, speaking to what we’ve seen, Dellien is probably the slight match favorite. We can never know just how much Thiem is improving, and I’m sure he is improving daily while Dellien is likely more stagnant since Thiem is more so climbing back up. Let’s see if Dellien can take out one of the biggest names in tennis for a place in the 2nd round of the 2022 French Open.
Dominic Thiem and Hugo Dellien have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. This could turn into a great match, with both players being able to grind it out in the rallies. With the way Thiem has struggled lately on his forehand wing, I think this tournament is perfect for him to get better, being able to take more time and figure out better ways to be aggressive off that wing like before. I do expect him to be able to find his stride here and get a tough win and a ticket to the Round of 64 at the 2022 French Open.
