Madrid Open 2022: Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Andrey Rublev Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2022 Madrid Open as Stefanos Tsitsipas takes on Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals on Friday, May 6th, 2022.

Will Stefanos Tsitsipas get the win? Will Andrey Rublev pull off the upset? This will be a fascinating one, where we have two of the most in form players on the ATP Tour right now coming to a clash. Who will triumph and move on to the semifinals at the 2022 Madrid Open?

Stefanos Tsitsipas got a great win over Grigor Dimitrov, playing some great tennis in the last weeks. After lifting the title in Monte-Carlo, he hasn’t slowed down, but perhaps he’ll be tested coming up against Andrey Rublev. Rublev has been playing some great tennis himself and has a good record against Tsitsipas, but at the end of the day, Tsitsipas knows what he’s doing on the clay better than almost anyone right now, and I expect him to push through and move on to the semifinals at the 2022 Madrid Open.

Andrey Rublev took down Dan Evans in a tight straight sets match, 7-6 (7), 7-5. Coming up against Stefanos Tsitsipas will be quite the challenge, while Rublev will fight hard as he’s shown he will time and time again, it’s rather unlikely that he can do more than take this one to the distance unless Tsitsipas helps him out. Rublev can keep up with the pace Tsitsipas brings as Rublev is arguably the biggest ball crusher at the top of the game right now, but with the clay court prowess of the Greek, it’ll be an uphill battle at the 2022 Madrid Open.

Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev have met eight times before, with the head to head being tied at 4-4. In a ninth meeting between the pair, the margins couldn’t be closer as their head to head is all tied up. Rublev has taken him down on the clay before, and I think he can do it again if he’s incredibly aggressive as Tsitsipas may struggle on defense, especially on a quicker court like this one. If Rublev is gonna beat him on the clay once again, it’s gonna be here in Madrid. Let’s see if the two top 10ers will give us the meeting we’ve anticipated to clash for a place in the semifinals at the 2022 Madrid Open.
