Casper Ruud has been playing some great tennis lately, lifting a title on the clay this season and reaching the final of the Miami Masters. Ruud now looks ahead to the clay season, despite now being one of the guys to beat on hard courts, he is still even scarier on clay courts, and as he looks ahead to Holger Rune, it seems almost impossible that he could lose. He made the semifinals here last year, and with how much he’s improved since then, I expect him to get a great start off to his campaign at the Monte-Carlo Masters 2022.
Holger Rune took down Aslan Karatsev in 3 tight sets, a great win for him. Karatsev has been out of form as of late though and definitely helped him out a lot. Casper Ruud will not help him in the slightest. Rune plays a solid game, somewhat resembling Novak Djokovic, but he doesn’t really have the offensive weapons to dictate the court like Ruud does. Ruud has been serving really well, and with how strong his forehand is, there is little that stands in the way of the Norwegian and the Round of 16 at the Monte-Carlo Masters 2022.
Casper Ruud and Holger Rune have met twice before, with Casper Rudd leading the head to head 2-0. Their two meetings came last season on the clay, with one even coming at this very tournament, Ruud won both their matches very easily. While he might struggle just a little bit more this time around, there is little doubt in the end of what he will do here. He’ll totally overpower Rune from the back of the court and in all areas to take the match and get a great start off to his campaign at the Monte-Carlo Masters 2022.
