Fabio Fognini has been struggling on the tour, while still maintaining a relatively high ranking, he has been losing quite often and having many mental lapses throughout the last year. While this was not always uncommon, he is losing his physicality year by year and will need to regroup mentally. He does not have an easy one ahead of him, Martinez plays solid. This does look like a good shot for Fognini to get a win under his belt though as the fourth seed aims to get a good start to his campaign at the 2022 Argentina Open.
Pedro Martinez got a great win to advance to the round of 16 vs the no. 4 seed in Fabio Fognini. He took down the finalist in Cordoba very easily, showing off his masterful forehand and consistency. If he can play aggressively against Fognini, he will win. Ultimately though, I expect Fognini to pull it out, there’s a reason he has the ranking he does, and I think he will take this one in 3 to advance to the quarterfinals at the 2022 Argentina Open.
Fabio Fognini and Pedro Martinez have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. The two have never met before, and Martinez is not a great matchup for him. A good player to take on Fognini would be someone who is able to take the racquet out of his hands, and Martinez plays a much more passive game, so he will likely not be able to show an aggressive level to take down the Italian star. Let’s see if Fognini can get the win and progress to the final eight at the 2022 Argentina Open.
