He suffered a tough loss to Soonwoo Kown in the first round of the Australian Open in 5 sets, but will be motivated as ever being a very young player, aiming to take down a tough clay court opponent in Roberto Carballes Baena to move on to the Round of 16 here at the 2022 Cordoba Open.
Roberto Carballes Baena has a tough one ahead of him in Holger Rune, but he will be happy they get to play on the clay. Carballes Baena likes his clay, being able to use his heavy topspin game to draw errors from opponents and pull them off the court. I think he will struggle though, as Rune also likes his clay and can play a high level if his game is working. Roberto Carballes Baena also hasn’t had too many matches under his belt, let’s see if he can take down the young next-gen star and move on to the Round of 16 at the 2022 Cordoba Open.
Holger Rune and Roberto Carballes Baena have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s not too diverse of a matchup, with both players liking to play consistently, but Rune showing many signs of being able to diversify his game in terms of good net play and aggressive ground strokes from the baseline that he can redirect beautifully as we saw him that great first round match he played against World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in New York. I think Holger Rune will tough it out, but it won’t be easy for him as he aims to make the last 16 of the 2022 Cordoba Open.
