Will Roberto Bautista Agut continue to dominate and show us how he is an incredibly tough player to beat on all surfaces with his depth of shot, speed of movement, and accuracy? Will Hubert Hurkacz use his huge serve and forehand to get some easy points under his belt? This is going to be an important match for both countries as it really depends on who wins the opening match, and the winner of this match can decide the tie, or take this tie to a doubles match. Who will win this extremely tight match at the 2022 ATP Cup?
Roberto Bautista Agut is yet to lose a set here at the 2022 ATP Cup, dominating against all of his opponents, beating Garin, Ruud, and Lajovic in extraordinary fashion. Roberto is another breed of tennis player in my opinion, being able to dominate rallies and go for extremely long amounts of time against some amazing players. Roberto has all the shots needed in his game to be successful, and he is so good at them, almost never missing by mistake, but rather being forced to miss. This is a great trait to have, and he will hope that his game is at its best against Hubert Hurkacz.
Hubert Hurkacz started off a bit slowly here at the 2022 ATP Cup, finding his rhythm in his opening match, but since then he has been nothing but superb. Hubert just seems to play tennis and make extremely tough shots look easy. Hurkacz has two great assets in his game, his serve, and forehand. In these conditions, these are great because he is able to get a lot of kick off his serve, and even when the ball is returned, he then has a lot of racket head speed to drive opponents off the court. Now, however, the Pole will have to be at his best as he meets a great returner in Roberto Bautista Agut.
Hubert Hurkacz and Roberto Bautista Agut have met 2 times before, with Roberto Bautista Agut leading the head to head 2-0. Although Hubert is ranked in the top 10, whilst Roberto is 19th in the world, Roberto seems like the better option here. Hubert has a great game with a solid serve and forehand, but from what I’ve seen by Roberto this week, he just seems on top of everything. The Spaniard’s movement is impeccable and he is able to return almost everything. The way to beat Hubert is to send balls really deep in the court, which Roberto is an expert at, and this prevents Hurkacz from playing his attacking style of tennis. It will be tight, but I see Roberto Bautista Agut causing the upset here at the 2022 ATP Cup.
