TennisSection previews the 2021 Mubadala World Tennis Championship as Andy Murray takes on Taylor Fritz in Round 1 on Thursday, December 16th, 2021.
Will Andy Murray come out and get a solid win under his belt to get some momentum going here at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship and face one of his biggest rivals, Rafael Nadal? Will Taylor Fritz come out here at the last minute and be ready for a tough challenge against Murray? Both players know this is an exhibition tournament, but they also know that it is a great place to get some momentum going before the start of next season. Who will give themselves a chance to play the King of Clay on Friday at the 2021 Mubadala Championship?
Andy Murray is looking to get some strong competitive minutes under his belt here at the 2021 Mubadala Championship as he comes back from a month off after having played in Stockholm just over a month ago. Murray put on some great matches this year, and he most recently beat Jannik Sinner, a top 10 player, just a month ago. Coming here at this exhibition tournament, Murray will know that he is not fighting for a huge win, but on the other hand he knows that getting a win over Taylor Fritz before the start of the 2022 season would be a great sign for him as he aims to get some momentum going.
Taylor Fritz has come here as a last minute reserve after Dominic Thiem withdrew due to not being completely ready to play at his best. Fritz is an outstanding player, with so much talent, and he has made a name for himself for becoming the highest ranked American player this year. Taylor Fritz will know that there might be some rust as he was not preparing for this exhibition as much as others perhaps, but he knows that it will be good for him to get some minutes under his belt, especially against someone like Andy Murray at the 2021 Mubadala Championship to get himself ready for 2022.
Andy Murray and Taylor Fritz have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. Andy has been fighting hard to ensure he can prolong his career after him retiring due to his hip issues. Taylor, on the other hand, has been playing at a great level this year, going far into tournaments, nearly beating the likes of Novak Djokovic. This match at the 2021 Mubadala Championship will just be a feast of entertainment where both players will try and give the crowd what they want, a long match where it does not matter who wins. However, if I have to go with who I believe has more chance of winning at this moment in time, I think Murray will just because he has the crowd on his side and he will want to win this match more as it means more for his momentum than it does for Taylor.
