Paris Masters 2021: Carlos Alcaraz vs. Hugo Gaston Tennis Pick and Prediction

TennisSection previews the 2021 Paris Masters as Carlos Alcaraz takes on Hugo Gaston in the Round of 16 on Thursday, November 4th, 2021.

Will Carlos Alcaraz get the win? Will Hugo Gaston pull off the upset? This will be an interesting one, where we have a surprising matchup with the crowd favorite taking on a next-gen star. Who will move on to the quarterfinals at the 2021 Paris Masters?

Carlos Alcaraz got one of the best wins of his career taking down the new world No. 9 in two tough sets. The fact that he managed to overpower Sinner in straights is incredible, and a true testament to his talent and improvement over the course of just a few months. He is the favorite to move into the next round as he takes on Hugo Gaston, another surprise player to make it to this round. Gaston is a quirky player, but he doesn’t have the weapons to take on Alcaraz, who is loaded with weapons, especially the forehand. I expect Alcaraz to step up and get this match in the bag to book his place in the quarterfinals at the 2021 Paris Masters.

Hugo Gaston got a great win, upsetting PCB in three sets to set up another tough matchup with Carlos Alcaraz. Gaston will have the crowd backing him, that’s for sure, but to actually take out Alcaraz will be a very difficult feat. Gaston likes to play with less pace and lots of drop shots and slices, a quirky game. Alcaraz is all about power, but he also has many other impressive aspects to his game, including his net play and movement. For Gaston to win seems like an impossible feat due to the matchup, so he would simply have to play the best tennis he’s ever played to win if he wants to challenge Alcaraz for a spot in the final eight at the 2021 Paris Masters.

Carlos Alcaraz and Hugo Gaston have never met before, with this being their first career meeting. It’s an interesting matchup, with power vs finesse, but it’s not very favorable to Gaston, who will undoubtedly struggle coming up against the powerhouse that is Alcaraz. Alcaraz will batter him from the back of the court, and on the serve and return, where even he still has lots of room to improve. If Gaston can really cut off the angles and get to the net often, then he may have a chance to set up some favorable plays, but it’s just ultimately very unlikely that he’d be able to pull it off as the two fight for a spot in the quarterfinals at the 2021 Paris Masters.
